Ampalaya (prepared and sliced) |
I was used to see an Ampalaya (Bitter melon, Bitter gourd,) scientific name: Momordica Charantia as sliced and ready to cook. This is a green vegetable that tastes so bitter but its health benefits are truly amazing. But here in Saudi, I am able to see the whole of it. I have confessed this because I was shocked with its form. I don't have any idea that that is the true form of this vegetable. Back then in the Philippines we buy Ampalaya inside a plastic and the vendor will be the one to clean it and slice it for you. In contrast, here in Saudi it's totally a different thing. They sold their vegetable in raw so you really need to prepare them so you can eat them.
For all days in my life I was not able to see it naturally. In a normal day we ate that with a mixture of eggs though it is still bitter but the taste is good enough. In preparation, you should put some salt in the sliced Ampalaya and mix it together squeezing the vegetable so it will release its liquid green content. This content is the concentrated sugar reducer element so better squeeze it not too hard so it will have it health benefits to you.
